5th Grade

Engineering Design Process
3D Printing

Fifth graders learned about the power of 3D printing and how it can be used to create objects to help solve everyday problems. Click here to look inside their STEM Lab Notebook (on Book Creator) to view the problem their team came up with, a paper prototype of their proposed solution, the Computer Aided Design (CAD) they created using TinkerCAD, an Augmented Reality (AR) video of their idea, and a picture of their 3D printed product (also seen above on the right). Additionally, you'll see the magazine ad they wrote, that gives further detail on the product and its need! I think they're ready to get some patents and pitch to Shark Tank!

Caine's Arcade: The Global Cardboard Challenge

Fifth grade engineers worked in teams to create a cardboard arcade out of recycled materials. Scroll through the slideshow below to view all the games from this year! Each team created, using Apple Clips, that explains their game, the rules, and a demonstration on how to play it! These videos are located in their digital STEM notebooks via Book Creator.
Click here to watch a video from each class that recaps the develop of these games during the engineering design process. (Need SGUSD account to view videos.)
